VERY EXPENSIVE. Limited choices. Nothing spectacular.

Great lunch. Even bought some breads to take home.

The Back Alley Bakery never disappoints! This will always be a must on my list when visiting Hastings. The lunch items are always delicious but if you missed lunch there are amazing desserts and unique artisan breads to enjoy!

Local ingredients. Yummy flavor combinations. New limited menu selection each day. And now pizza once a week and dinner once a week!

Came in with friends who left review below. Order took forever to begin to arrive and then only 3 of 6 meals arrived so the wives and one of the children got to watch the others enjoy their meal. Bacon was raw. Eggs were dry. Offered a refund we never saw. With all the good reviews, I feel cheated. I had been looking for a nice small spot to enjoy breakfasts but that search will have to continue.

This place is fantastic!! Good clean, fresh food! Love the atmosphere!! We live in Lincoln but might need to make a trip or two to Hastings for lunch.

Best lunch spot in town. Local fare, excellent customer service, simple menu, fresh bread, and sweet treats. Thursday night is pizza night, call ahead to order. They also have good breakfasts, but I'm usually there for lunch. Show up a little before noon if you want to get a seat.

The staff is friendly and helpful. They are mainly a dessert shop but also sell various breads, lunches and pizza on Thursday evenings. I've been going in for over a year and everything I've eaten has been great. Even their plain white bread is a special treat and delicious.

Always impressed by the variety and quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff. Great coffee and baked goods as well! This is my go-to place for lunch dates with my husband, outings with friends, or when I'm introducing people to the "hidden gems" here in Hastings.

Delicious home-cooked meals. The menu is different everyday and I actually really love that. I don't grow tired of the same meal. Their meals are always very filling as well. They include a variety everyday, serving lighter fair to the down-right hearty meal. Everything they serve and sell is made in Nebraska. They have fresh bread and baked goods every morning, too. The cheesy garlic loafs are to die for, would recommend. They also sell some small business products such as Pacha Soaps which is made right in Hastings. The atmosphere is so inviting and warm in the restaurant. For the nice days they do have seating out front as well which is wonderful. All servers I've had here are very friendly and have a smile even when it's crazy busy. If you only have a half hour lunch I wouldn't suggest here as stated before they make everything fresh to order, so you may be pushing it with a short lunch. Very laid back atmosphere. I do suggest this place to friends all the time.

I love this place. Every time I visit Hastings, this is the one place I always make sure to go eat at. The food is consistently awesome. The service, on average, isn't the greatest. I understand they are busy, but I never go during the busy meal times. Typically I have to ask for refills, when I'm ready to order and for my ticket. But because I am in love with their paninis, this is literally the only place I've ever returned to when their service sucks.

Stopped by this bakery for the first time on my drive back to Lincoln and purchased the Toasted 5 Seed bread. It was a hearty loaf with melt in your mouth flavor and a perfect crust. Worth the detour off I-80.

First time there and it was wonderful! We will be back. Great food, wait staff knows how to make recommendations, terrific atmosphere, and the BEST sweetrolls!

They have excellent food, breads and desserts. It has a nice atmosphere and an assortment of treats, etc that you can buy as well. I highly recommend trying it!

Wonderfully tasty bread! Nice staff. Day old bread sold at great prices. Good place for a snack. They also have a shelf of some locally produced goods like honey and preserves.

Great food in the best bread ever

The house raised sour dough starter makes for some amazing loaves of bread! The wait staff is incredibly friendly, even when they are overwhelmed with patrons at busy hours. I have a tip for the baked goods. (all what I purchased were dry, over baked, which came across as stale) Your cooled case is lovely, but it is ruining your baked goods. They still need covered in order to stay moist. Your new pumpkin spice bundt is good, but overcooked, dry, and crumbles. You can counter this by adding a half a package of vanilla pudding to your batter, and cover the final product in the case.

I had lunch there today with my wife and daughter. Our waitress (Karen) was delightful. Food was excellent. And make sure you save room for some dessert. You won't be disappointed.

The entrees, desserts and bread are fantastic. Service is wonderful atmosphere is very pleasant. We are visiting from Omaha and ate here on Friday and Saturday. I love the changing simple menu. I will definitely let my friends know about this little gem.

What a wonderful place for lunch! Comfortable, homey environment and food is to die for. Get there early because they sometimes run out of the "favorites".

Im new here to Hastings. My birthday was coming up and I wanted a great cake for the occasion. My cousins said Back Alley was the best. So I called and ordered a lemon cake. When I picked it up, it was pretty. Later we had cake. We were disappointed. My cousins felt so bad. The flavor was good, the icing was great, but the cakes texure was strange. Rough texture almost dry. We didnt eat the rest. But I want to give them a second chance. I love their breads and jellies. Im not saying dont go there. Give it a chance, its suppose to be the best in Hastings!!!🎂

The bleu cheese bread is wonderful.

I stop here every time I go to Hastings. The bread and desserts are wonderful, and service is excellent!
